Western Threads was founded in Austin, Texas by Jacob Lewis who was inspired in equal parts by cult songwriters (Lou Reed, Serge Gainsbourg), country music (Lee Hazlewood, Gram Parsons), and noisy indie rock (The Vaselines, Yo La Tengo).

After earlier changes in personnel the band settled into a lineup of Lewis (guitar, vocals), Gina Maio (bass), Mike Mangiapane (drums), Ainsley Richter (vocals), and Jeff Fazio (guitar, lap steel).

"Cowboys In Montmartre," the band's debut LP, was recorded in 2020 and released February 27th, 2021.
